Watch out for online forums...you may catch stupid from them... aaaaaah a lil rant here. it won't be so bad and i'm certain it is something we ALL can agree on. online forums...message boards...chat rooms... a place to meet people in the modern era? or... A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK?!? i think that the WHO should be called on this one. after some research i have concluded that online forums and other such applications are teeming with the "stupid" virus. i have also found traces of the "moron" bacteria and "idiot" fungus as well. this should NOT be taken lightly ya'll! this could lead to a serious global pandemic of stupid, morons, and idiots!! after looking through a couple online forums, namely the World of Warcraft online forum, as well as some lifestyle forums (though they tend to be more aware of the risks of stupid, moron and idiot infection) i have discovered an astonishing and almost terrifying pattern...i think you all know what i mean... 1st POSTER: hey, i hav a question. what is the difrens betwn rogeus and shamens? im tring to deside witch one to chose. thnx 2nd POSTER: hey, you're an idiot, lern to spell. i geuss english ain't yer first langauge. 3rd POSTER: i find that i like to play rogues more. they're more fun to solo...blah, blah, blah (helpful info pertaining to the original question). 1st POSTER: i wuz just askin a simple question. you don't have to be a &**# about it. 2nd POSTER: i would give u an answer but if you can't spell yer a moron. 3rd POSTER: hey give them a break, they asked a legit question. what does it matter that it's grammatically correct, it could be a lil kid or something. 1st POSTER: thnx btw, that info helped 2nd POSTER: YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF RETARDS!! LEARN TO SPEL!!! 4th POSTER: shamans are a bit better than rogues...blah, blah, blah... 3rd POSTER: true, but rogues can...blah, blah, blah 2nd POSTER: rogues and shamens blow ass! paladins rock all over! you guys SUCK! 1st POSTER: your an asshole! go away! 3rd POSTER: yeah, go run off to retard land. 2nd POSTER: you spelled your rong! this place is full of idiots!! ... it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND... it could drive someone to kill. or worse... i think it can actually make them stupid. what is it about forums and such that makes it such a hotbed of stupid germs? is it the anonymity? total strangers meeting up sharing ideas with no protective barrier? no way to screen stupid ideas from good ideas? bad arguments from good arguments? all of it leading to a the rampant spread of stupid? it seems that it only gets worse as each person gets more involved. one person asking a simple question only to get crushed by some "grammer nazi" or made to feel like an idiot by some "smarter-than-anyone-here" person. then someone actually has something relevant to say. then the person who originally posted comes in to defend themselves which only riles the assholes further. then the other people start defending that person. then other assholes join the fray...next thing you know the entire thing has completely degraded into such childish bullshit that you can't even remember what the whole thing was about in the first place; and everyone who posts only seems to get stupider and stupider and stupider until at last the entire forum is filled with complete morons and idiots. what started as a fairly intelligent, non-combative debate ends up a giant stinking pile of infectious stupid. you see it all over the place too. not just in forums on various sites, but even here in d-land! i highly suggest you all protect yourself against the stupid and not go crazy posting to notes, comments, or guestbooks that you don't know and trust already. i'm serious, you could find that you've caught a terminal case of stupid...and i'm not sure if there could be anything worse than that... my advice is to try not to get too involved. the more you post the more your chances of infection increase with each post. these chances are then multiplied by the number of people who are already posting. as you can see, what starts out as a simple 01% chance of infection can increase quickly to nearly %100...in some cases it can be instant infection!! we all have our opinions. that's a given. let's just agree to disagree on that one. someone says something you don't like YOU DON'T HAVE TO RESPOND. if you feel you just HAVE TO respond, then at least make it objective and to the point. remember, by responding you put yourself at risk of catching stupid germs. abstinence is the only 100% garaunteed way of not catching stupid. also remember that about 99.99% of the time these arguments will be completely circular and pointless because it's all based on opinion and belief and other such intangible and ephemeral ideas. you can't find evidence to support that someone is an asshole because there are probably lots of people who'd disagree...or agree...or not really give a fuck who this person is in the first place. point is, let people defend their own honor. it's a nice gesture to jump in and be like "oh ho! nay fellow posters! let us not make enemies! let us unite and be kind! blah, blah, blah!" believe me, we all recognize your noble intentions...but noble or not...when you've caught stupid, nobility will not save you or others that you come in contact with. it's also important to remember that when you argue with a crazy person, you end up looking like a crazy person too...that's something my mom used to always say. she also used to say never to pick on retards too. that being said, when you see someone who has been infected with stupid on a forum or elsewhere, don't make fun of them and don't try to argue with them. you will catch stupid. as you can see, my fears of stupid becoming a massive outbreak of devestatingly epic proportions are relatively well founded. we must all try to come together to fight this horrible disease. learn to turn the other cheek. it's just a forum. no one really cares in the end who's wrong or right...there is no such thing as wrong or right in many of these cases. it's just plain stupid. so protect yourself dear friends post to places your are familiar with, where you have seen little to no evidence that stupid germs are present (like my notes section, or comments, or guestbook for example). and for the love of all that is holy, avoid online forums like the plague...they are seething hotbeds of stupid!! this public service announcement brought to you by: StarDustCboy and the Coalition Against The Spread of Stupid *** ~B-) 5:08 p.m. - 2005-04-19 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
