...Rocky Mountain High, Colorado (Reprise)...

good morning my dearest cyber-friends!

it's hump-day once again! so what are you just sitting there for? get to humpin' dammit!

takin' the time early in the morn to type out an entry.

my trip with JeLLy to see my lil sis get married turned out to be quite a good one. it was great to see all my family again, and moreover, to see colorado in full autumn garb. everywhere the aspens were firey-red, lemon-yellow, and sunset-orange; and the great top of Pikes Peak was crowned in snow that shined brilliantly in the clear colorado sky. *sigh* gorgeous!

you know, having a 14,000 ft. tall mountain on the horizon REALLY does a lot to a space. i mean, it's like the sky in colorado is a vaulted ceiling or something it just seems so much more...OPEN.

strangely, the people of colorado aren't so "open". they're a pretty conservative lot overall. my family is SO right wing you'd wonder where the hell i came from. though i do admit that my aunt and uncle are a bit "liberal" by colorado standards, still JeLLy and i are like hethen freaks of nature!

my lil sister, and my family as a whole, have recently rediscovered their connection to god. that being said, they go to church and attend mass, pray and perform all the other trappings of a religious institution.

i've never felt so utterly alien.

in no way am i estranged from my family. on the contrary, i still love them dearly, i'm just so vastly different.

the wedding was gorgeous. the groom was a really great guy. he's a shy/quiet type and rather stoic, despite he has a really great character and is quite amiable overall. he's really good for my sister.

the funny thing is that his family is all much like him. he has 4 sisters (1 younger and 3 older) and his mom and dad own a cargo hauling company (they drive big 18-wheelers all around the country). they're all very religious, devout and pious folk.

this was probably THE MOST sober wedding i've ever been to. no wine. no beer. no champagne. just sparkling cider, apple juice and punch.

the bachelor party consisted of a whole 45-minutes of videogames at a local arcade (we were supposed to play some miniature golf but the groom showed a bit late); and everyone called it a night at 10pm.

the bachelorette party (according to reports from JeLLy and my cousin) consisted of apple juice, twinkies, and cookies whilst playing an interactive DvD rom game called "SceneIt". JeLLy told me that at one point in the evening a scene with robin williams doing the "madonna, madonna..." bit came up and one of the girls said...

"oh, oh! i've heard of that movie! what is it...mmmm..."

which JeLLy quickly answered...

"it's the BIRDCAGE!"

she continued...

"oooh yeeah! yeah! i've never seen that movie. my mom won't let me watch it cuz it has gays in it."

yep. crazy. but that's not the least of it!

you see, it turns out that this dear lil child is married. she's 19 and married. in fact, ALL OF MY SISTER'S FRIENDS were no older than 22-23 and they were hitched for a year or less each.

it was WACKY.

the idea was boggling to us city folk - myself, JeLLy and my new york cuz's included. that and the "dry" wedding thing. *ahem*

so yeah, it was an interesting experience. i feel bad for the groom's family. they're gonna' hafta' take time to adjust to our family. JeLLy had remarked after meeting them all that she can see where i get each of my personality traits and other characteristics, like i'm a conglomeration of all my family in one person. in any case, we're all VERY opinionated, VERY loud, VERY open (in the communication sense), and VERY stubborn. an odd contradiction to the pious, soft-spoken, god-fearing family of the groom! ;-P

but opposition is a good thing. it creates moving energy.

the other funny lil tidbit was that the groom was a VIRGIN. he'd never dated anyone even! whereas my sister has seen a few. i'm not sayin' that she's a pro in any sense of the word, but at least she has a body of experience. thus, this was a stress point for the poor groom. he's a loving and caring sort, and he wanted to be sure to give my sister a good time and do everything in his power to please her. hearing this, JeLLy and i wrapped up the ancient tome of sexual lore "THE GUIDE TO GETTING IT ON" (an absolutely amazing book, great for the old pro and the virgin alike) and gave it to them. only to worry and regret later. as the book is VERY objective in its approach to sex and sexuality, and moreover very VERY liberal as well. i was worried the sections on homosexuality and sodomy would offend their christian sensibilities!

me: "um, just skip chapters 8 and 11 wouldya'?"

in the end it all worked out. they went off on their honeymoon and weren't seen at church the next day (as many had anticipated). which is a good sign!

later my sister told me the book was INVALUABLE and that they had kept it on the nightstand the whole weekend.

awesome. now i don't feel so bad! ;-)

so that was that. an odd sort of wedding, but something that opened my mind in new ways...ways i will shortly explain...however, i must get showered and prepare for work. i'll be back to give you a better perspective in a bit...until then...

my heart is full!
