THE STORY OF LITTLE SANCHO CHAPTER 3: The man, his family and his demons.

so it came to pass that little Sancho and his wife lived happily together in the sunny isles of the carribean. He was a teacher there, tutoring young minds in the ways of his craft a very noble cause indeed. She was a nurse and cared for the sick and the dying. In time their work took them to other places. They lived for a short time in the city of Chicago and made many friends. They lived together for a very long time before two events changed their lives.
The first, as is natural with a couple who is married for a time, was Christas pregnancy with their first child. the second, and more sad, was Christas mothers illness. But the universe works in strange and unknowable ways. For despite, his mother-in-laws stroke, she had become a better and more tolerant woman.
So the two lovers returned to Colorado to be with their family and to start a family of their own. Much time had passed and they lived happily for quite a long time. They saw their son grow to a young man, they had a daughter as well, and they lived in the mountains teaching and healing, laughing and dancing, loving and living. This was a good time for Sancho, for it was the culmination of all his long years of pain. And when he was with his children, he vowed to them and to himself, that he would be there for them, love them, and care for them. For he had never known a family such as that for himself, and neither had he known a life such as this. He was truly happy.
Despite the years of financial debt, despite his depression, despite the demons that rattled at the doors of his mind; he remained strong for his wife and his family and never were they without. For when times were lean, he would work twice as hard; and when times were tough he would take pleasure and happiness in his family. this was the way for many years as he watched his children grow into adults and leave to begin their own journeys in life. He was proud of the life he had made, proud of his children who were now off to college in far-away places.
But as is the way with age, Sancho was left will nothing but his wife and himself. Thus began a new era in his life. For all the demons, all the pain that he had hidden away began to rattle the locks in his mind.
A man can only go so long on his journey, before his past catches up to him again, and he must face all that has shaped him for betteror for ill.
Thus Sancho began to face some of his demons. I was there to see. I accompanied him to the grave of his parents and his brother as he placed upon the cold, chiseld rock of the headstones letters that he had written unto them. I watched as he cried and cried, the years of sorrow and loss pouring from his stout and strong body, bringing him to his knees before the ghosts of his lost mother, father and brother. Alas they were in silence, and the questions and confessions of his love and pain unto them would forever be without answer; but in the end this act was answer enough and Sancho (as well as your dear narrator) left a different man that day. I drove him home, from his long lost home in southern Colorado, as he cried like a child for the first time in all his life.
Such is the way with life and existence. That we have the choices to shape ourselves as we see fit. That we can choose to succumb to our pain and our demons, or we can choose to grow and adapt beyond them so that they are powerless to eat at our souls. This, among many other things, is what I have learned from story of little Sancho. But again, it is not the end of this tale, for little Sancho still has something to learn (for fate teaches us a great many things in our long lives)and in many wayswe all have something still to learn from story little Sancho
