stardustcboy's Diaryland Diary

...There are some things that make words redundant...

aaaaah, look at that my loved ones!

play pretends with me for a moment, and imagine we're standing together on the observation deck of some massive interstellar starship...

this is the scene yawning before you...

a voice in your ear, piped wirelessly to your cerebral cortex by your Nueral Interface Device, gives a little background information of this tiny lil part of the vast cosmos...

here you see the horsehead nebula...it is classified as a 'dark nebula' or 'diffuse nebula'. Dark nebulae are clouds of dust which are simply blocking the light from whatever is behind. They are physically very similar to reflection nebulae; they look different only because of the geometry of the light source and the cloud. Dark nebulae are also often seen in conjunction with reflection and emission nebulae. A typical diffuse nebula is a few hundred light-years across. the horsehead nebula is actually a small part of an even larger cloud of gas and dust here in the constellation of orion. the large star near the bottom left is 'Zeta Orionis'...the smaller star above it is called 'NGC2024'. to the lower right is the star 'NGC2023' and just above that is 'Sigma Orionis'. the long band of purplish light is a dense cloud of matter winding it's way along the electromagnetc and gravitic currents put off by the many stars inside the nebula.

we will be in a stationary position here for the next 3 days at which point we will make our way to the galaxy, Andromeda. enjoy.

mmmm...

look at it my loves. isn't it gorgeous? all those stars...all that light, matter and energy...

*sigh*

to think that our planet, our sun, was born from a similar cosmic womb a few billion years ago. to think that there are a countless number of other worlds and suns being born at this very moment...far...far away. to think that a countless number of suns and planets were born at the very same moment as our own...

it's a profound and wondrous thing my dears. we are but children to this starry expanse of void...atomies in the face of an infinite and ever moving energy...

call it what you will, but it is vistas such as this one that leave me without a doubt, that there is definitely something far greater than all of us moving behind it.

a force...

an energy...

whatever.

it is something more beautiful than you can possibly conceive of.

"God is a number you cannot count to."

ah my heart is full today. despite having some very wacky dreams...which i'm sure were inspired by mr. boxley's diary...and a few too many beers before bedtime...i feel that all is well in the world.

i'm a bit nervous for my darling G. work is so stressful for her, and today just might be her last day. this is probably more of a good thing if that is truly the case...but it's always nicer to have two incomes...even though i make enough to support us both.

*shrugs*

that cosmic view above puts it all in perspective for me somehow; and i have nary a care in the world.

billions of years from now it won't matter. the sun will burn out, new stars will shine, and far off in the distant reaches of space a stranger will ponder the meaning of it all.

this, for some reason, is wholly reassuring.

be good my loves wherever you are. we are connected by an invisible thread you and i, whether we realize or not.

xoxo
